I thought I would take a tour of the Radio programmes on the Light Programme on Saturday 6^th May 1960, 57 years ago!

What do you remember? And which names do you recognise or have forgotten? Remember this was before the days of 24 hour radio! I picked a Saturday because that was the day most of us listened.

The day started at 06.30 with the weather and news summary and this was quickly followed at 06.34 with Morning Music  with the BBC West of  England  Light Orchestra.

At 06.45 on 1,500 m. it was the Shipping Forecast followed by the
Weather and News Summary at 07.30

08.15: was time for MELODY ON THE MOVE with the BBC Scottish Variety Orchestra

09.00:This wwas our favourite time as it was Derek McCulloch (Uncle Mae) with CHILDREN'S FAVOURITES

This ended at 0 9.55 for :FIVE TO TEN A story, a hymn, and a prayer

At 10.00: came SATURDAY CLUB this week featuring:- The Lana Sisters, Rosemary Squires, Dickie Pride, Dick Jordon. Gary Marshal,
The Sonny Stewart Group, The Bert Weedon Quartet, The Ken Jones Five, The Geoff Taylor Quintet.

It also featured ‘Cat's Call’: disc stars interviewed by request of the listeners

Then came ‘New to You’, Spinning the latest releases was Brian Matthews

This went through until noon.

The top rated TV show was Wagon Train (ITV) and the box office smash was Psycho. A pound of today's money was worth £13.68 and Burnley were on the way to becoming the Season's Division 1 champions.

On 06/05/1961 the number one single was Wooden Heart - Elvis Presley and the number one album was GI Blues - Elvis Presley. The top rated TV show was No Hiding Place (AR) and the box office smash was One Hundred and One Dalmations.
